The idea of Starcrossed Lovers in entertainment has been around for a long time. The term was actually coined by Shakespeare to describe the most tragic pairing in entertainment history, Romeo and Juliet.
What Starcrossed Lovers actually means is a romantic pairing whose love is doomed to fail. Thankfully, on most television shows, this isn't always the case. Otherwise, I would never be able to emotionally handle watching half of my favorite shows.
For the most part, Starcrossed Lovers these days are usually just two people who are clearly perfect for each other but due to an array of frustrating (and entertaining) circumstances just can't seem to get it together enough to get together.
So, here are 17 Starcrossed Lovers on TV and have made us swoon and sob!
1. Clarke and Bellamy - The 100
Clarke and Bellamy have had instant chemistry since day one. However, with the Grounders War, Mount Weather, and of course the nuclear radiation issue of the last season, these two just haven't had the opportunity to sit down and talk about their obvious feelings.
2. Buffy and Angel- Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Obviously any time, anyone tries to start a romance with a vampire it's not going to work because they're going to live forever and you probably won't. But in the meantime, watching Buffy meet her match in Angel was every 90's kid's favorite addiction.
3. Ryan and Marissa - The OC
Everyone in the early 2000s was either a Summer and Seth or a Ryan and Marissa. The difference is that while Summer and Seth had a mostly stable relationship post Season 3, Ryan and Marissa just couldn't seem to get over their respective demons enough to make it work. It's tough being 17 in The OC.
4. Cole and Pheobe - Charmed
Sadly, this is one relationship that really was doomed from the start. Frustrating too because Cole actually came back for the final only to set Pheobe up with a totally different character??? How does that even make sense? Sorry, I'm still pretty mad about this one.
5. Tyrone and Tandy - Cloak and Dagger
Ok so these two aren't a couple yet but you would have to be willfully blind to ignore the chemistry going on between these two. Shame that they have these wacky new superpowers to deal with first. Maybe once they have that under control they may have time to do something normal like go to the movies or eat pizza together.
6. Angela and Eliot - Mr Robot
It's incredible that these two didn't even share their first kiss until the second season but then the world of Mr. Robot is almost as screwed us as our actual world so we will give these two a pass. In the end, it was worth waiting for, the childhood friends are equally smart and tormented, but will their demons get the best of them in the end?
